IBM Facility at 1301 K. Street

as of Aug. 8, 2006 Back to GGF18 F2F

Location

As you can see from the DC area map below the GGF Hotels, Washington Convention Center, and the IBM location at 1301 K. Street are all very close together in downtown Washington DC. With the possible exception of the Hyatt Regency the IBM location is a pretty easy walk from any of these locations.

Taxicabs in DC are of two types. Meter cabs (usually Maryland or Virginia cabs) are metered and fares based-on mileage and waiting time vary. Zone-cabs with the district and to National Airport

Airport access

National airport
Access to Reagan (sic) Washington National Airport (DCA) from downtown DC is very easy. (See Metro Subway Map below) From the IBM location at 1301 K. Street take the “blue line” Metro at McPherson Square toward “Franconia-Springfield” to the “Reagan Washington National Airport” stop. The Metro stop is connected to the main terminal via a walkway.
Dulles airport
Access to Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virgina is quite a bit more complicated as Dulles is about 40 miles away. Special “Washington Flyer” airport cabs and buses go between Dulles Airport and the West Falls Church Metro station and cost $9.00 in addition to the Metro fare to West Falls Church. A regular cab, limo, or van service will cost $50 - $90.

Local interests

Washington D.C. is the U.S Capitol and there is a great deal to do there. The Smithsonian Museums on the National Mall are free admission and open from 9:00AM – 5:00PM 7 days a week.

Safety tips

Washington D.C. is a pretty big city and like most large cities in the U.S. it has some crime problems. Lately there has been a spate of armed robberies in the downtown area so “walkers” are encouraged to travel at least in pairs.
