University Grid Curriculum

Introduction

This document aims to define a standard curriculum of recommended modules to form a course in Grid Computing. It is based partly on a similar attempt by the ICEAGE forum and also on the topics currently being taught by the participants in the OGF ET-Frameworks session.

The following keywords serve to provide an outline of the course structure:

  • Introduction
  • Motivation (why)

  • Definition (what)
  • Examples, case studies (where & who)
  • Individual technical topics (how)

Possible Individual Technical Topics

  • Grid security
  • Resource allocation and management - includes job submission, monitoring
  • Information services
  • Data management
  • Service oriented architecture
  • Programming paradigms - parameter sweeps, parallel jobs, mpi, workflow, etc. etc. APIs?)
  • Grid-relevant part of programming languages (e.g. Java, JDL, APIs?)
  • Grid installation, setup and test
  • Web services
  • Grid standards and OGF activities
  • Grid services

The above could be ordered into the following modules
