Tracker: Not Published
Title: OGSA® Resource Selection Services: Specification
Description:
The OGSA® Resource Selection Services specification defines an abstract interface for perform-ing queries used to
select resources for any purpose. The specification also narrows the abstract interface for the specific purpose of
selecting a Basic Execution Service on which to instantiate an activity based upon a Job Submission Description Language
document, and defines renderings for such services based on both the WS-Resource Framework and the WS-Transfer draft.
The final part of this specification gives a simple language for defining a function capable of ranking one candidate
for execution versus another.

Per the standards council meeting at OGF23: this document might be split or refactored, and if so might be removed/restarted in the editor pipeline.
Ramin will check on this with the editors/authors & communicate the plan for this document [or these documents].

On the standards council call today, GFSG agreed to move this specification forward as an experimental document. Re-assigned to the OGF Editor to
prepare the document for public comment.

  Comment:
I spoke with Donal yesterday. Although the specification is of very high quality, GFSG has some doubts that there is sufficient evidence of widespread
community support to warrant publishing it as a proposed recommendation at this stage. Donal consents to the suggestion from GFSG that the
specification proceed to publication as an experimental document instead of proposed recommendation. The public comment period for the experimental
document should provide valuable feedback to the OGSA-RSS working group and will serve as an opportunity to rally support from potential implementers
and contributors.

Stephen Pickles spoke with the author about concerns raised by the GFSG on November 20, and the GFSG discussed this document more extensively on
November 27.

Stephen will again communicate with the author, and this document will be discussed during the December 4 telecon or as soon thereafter as is
available.

I did not see any problems with this document, so it is now advanced to initial GFSG review. Due to the GFSG telecon schedule, it will be discussed
on November 20, or as soon afterward as possible.
