Hi Dave,
I can't join the meeting in Amsterdam (I have other long planned
commitments) so let me give a few small comments on the document via
email.
* Section 4: an issue that we see getting more and more important
through the interoperability work is the definition of the worker node
environment. SAGA is certainly a part of that but I'm not sure whether
it is sufficient; for instance, does it include sufficient service
discovery capabilities?
* Section 4.3 on file movement states that "no standardization activity
addresses this issue so far". In my understanding this is being
addressed by the DMI group as it is correctly pointed out in Table 1.
* Section 5 gives a backwards reference to Section 3 - should be 4.
* I have some problems with the way the 5th bullet of Section 2 is
formulated. Of course the goal is to have standards implemented and used
widely and this as fast as possible, however, this needs to be a mutual
collaborative process. The current formulation gives the impression that
standards are developed in OGF and then we request software developers
to implement them quickly and frequently without much interaction
before. I think the bullet really should say something like:
"encourage software developers, in the open source community and the
commercial software providers, to engage early in the standardization
process to facilitate an early adoption and implementation of these
standards in products."
My 2 cents ...
Cheers,
-- Erwin
