GGF10 Meeting Minutes
Review of Current State of the Group
1) Inconsistency interfering with goals
2) Member input very low
How to make a good idea work: Get involvement from existing production & persistent grids
Where/How to bring in OGSA: Host an OGSA-based workshop
Charter Review:
The charter is still relevant, but consensus was that the group should focus more on providing a venue for GGF members
who are creating and/or operating production or persistent grids. People are looking for use cases (witness the
attendence of case-oriented workshops) and are much less willing to write papers. This RG can meet these needs by
focusing on hosting and supporting GGF workshops and providing a "frequently-asked-questions" type resource for sites
building and/or running grids.
Constraints:
1) Don't duplicate what other WG/RG are doing (e.g. User Services)
2) Make sure that our activities have a well-defined purpose that adds value to the Grid community
Action Items:
1) Survey GGF membership (and other well-known production/peristent grids) to capture overview of current state of the
art.
a) Volunteers:
Rajesh Chhabra
Steve Newhouse
Doug Olson
Yoshio Tanaka
Judith Utley
David Wallom
b) Tasks (prior to GGF11):
i) Define what we want to learn from the survey
ii) Identify survey targets (who/which sites) to contact
iii) Draft survey
2) Establish "Program Committee" to focus on meeting and workshop effectiveness
a) Volunteers:
Laura McGinnis
Steve Newhouse
Doug Olson
Miroslav Ruda
David Wallom
b) Tasks (prior to GGF11)
i) Identify purpose of GGF11 session
ii) Resolve logistics:
- Request back-to-back blocks for GGF11
- Establish document repository for papers and presentations
iii) Identify/invite sites to send speakers to the GGF11 session
Summary:
PGM-RG must focus on purpose, not pocess. Why are we concerned with production grid issues? What do we want to know? Why
? What value can/should we add to the Grid community?
