Reagan,

I am seeking your permission to allow the NNSA Kansas City Plant (KCP) to use the GGF PERG Informational Document for
Persistent Archives (Version 6, I believe) as a guide in KCP's first SRB implementation of a persistent archival
environment at the KCP. This usage of your document would be in the context of the National Nuclear Security
Administration's MOU with NARA to share knowledge and expertise between NNSA and NARA. After reading the document
several times I have come to the conclusion that this is our best road map to begin building a persistent archive,
particularly for product data definition, at KCP using GRID technology as a foundation.

........

I fully realize we are seeking to use your document when it is not yet in
its final form. I hope that we can be of some help in giving the document
its final form through our limited implementation. My experience in
working in ISO 10303 STEP is that the sooner an idea gets tested the
better. I was at an ISO 10303 STEP meeting last week and I noticed that
there is now a trend towards testing out models and approaches as early in the project life cycle as possible. It is in
that spirit and in the spirit
of grounding research that we wish to use your informational document now instead of later.

Thanks for your leadership in the GGF PERG effort. It comes at a great
time for us.

John
