As a middleware developer, most of my basic needs are present in this document.  As Dr. Foster stated, API's exist to 
cover most of the the needs found in these use cases.  Job submission, file transfers, notification, file managment, etc
. are all available right now through Condor, Triana, Globus and GAT.  I do hope that through the work of this group, 
existing technologies and their individual idiosyncrasies are better combined under a common interface.
