Project: Thread-Based Reference Implementation for the DRMAAv2 C binding

Background

The DRMAA Working Group defines an API for the submission and control of jobs to one or more Distributed Resource Management (DRM) systems. The current version of specification already acts as primary API for Oracle / Sun Grid Engine, other implementations are available for PBS, Torque, Condor, LSF, Globus, LoadLeveler, SLURM, and GridWay. The scope of the specification is all the high level functionality which is necessary for an application to consign a job to a DRM system including common operations on jobs like termination, monitoring, or advance reservation.

The second major release of the specification is about to be finished.

Project Description

The project is intended to produce a reference implementation for the second version of the DRMAA specification, based on simulated cluster operations with local threads..The resulting implementation is intended to act as testing framework and single reference implementation for the new standard. Implementation experiences will be considered in the final DRMAAv2 grid recommendation document. The code also has the potential to act as starting point for future DRMAAv2 adaptors from academia and industry.

Project Requirements

Advanced C resp. C++ programming skills, and a basic understanding of multithreaded programming. The usage of task-parallel libraries (e.g. OpenMP) is possible. The intended target platform are Linux 2.6 systems.
