OGF Document Process

One of the Open Grid Forum's main outputs is its document series (which can be viewed here). Each document follows a specific process from creation through publication.

The document process works like this:

1. Authors write a document
2. Group members (and Area Directors) make comments, authors incorporate as appropriate.
3. "Last Call" is issued to the Group mailing list (including Area Directors) for comments
4. Document is submitted to the OGF Editor, an Area Director becomes "shepherd" for document
5. An Area Director "shepherd" brings document to the GFSG, which either approves for Public Comment Period, or sends back to authors with issues that need to be addressed first
6. Document moves to Public Comment Period and is announced to grid community (period is 60 days for Proposed Recommendation documents, 30 days for other types)
7. After Public Comment Period, authors address public comments and resubmit to the OGF Editor. If extensive changes are made, document goes through Public Comment Period (6) again.
8. OGF Editor brings document to GFSG for final approval as a OGF Grid Final Document (GFD)
9. Document is published as a GFD, listed on the website, and announced to the community.
10. If document is a Proposed Recommendation, an Experimental document needs to be written regarding experience with multiple, interoperating implementations. This document is then worked through the process and the original document becomes a full Recommendation.
